legacy port

legacy port

A socket (jack) for a type of connection that is no longer used. USB replaced many legacy ports, mostly on PCs, but also on the Mac. See plugs and sockets, USB and port.


Legacy Ports on an Earlier PC
The ports in "red italic" are no longer used. DVI and DisplayPort have replaced VGA for monitor connections; however, VGA may be used on low-cost desktop PCs or on laptops for compatibility with external data projectors. "S-video Out" and "TV out" are analog video outputs, which have been replaced by HDMI. See PC input/output.
