Lepiota

 

a genus of mushrooms of subclass Hymenomy-cetes, the best known of which are L. procera (the parasol mushroom), which reaches 50 cm in height and has a scaly brownish cap, and L. excoriata, which reaches 10 cm in height and has a white or light scaled cap. Both species are found in the summer in cleared areas, fields, and thin growth, but the second is more often found in meadows and steppes. Young Lepiota are edible.

During field work in the Himalayan moist temperate forests, two species of Lepiota were collected, which have been identified on molecular basis by extracting and analyzing rDNA.

The identification is only the second in Welsh history, after the Lepiota grangei was located in Anglesey in 2004.
Mr Mitchel said: "Lepiota grangei is a very distinctive species with a green blue cap covered in lots of small scales.
