Lewis, Lucy M.

(1895–  ) potter; born in Acoma Pueblo, N.M. A leading artisan of her era, she learned her craft by watching her great-aunt Helice Valeo. She is noted for her hand-built, unglazed red earthenware ornamented with a variety of ancient motifs, especially from the Mimbres and Zuni traditions.
