Listvenitization

The following article is from The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979). It might be outdated or ideologically biased.

Listvenitization

a process of the alteration of ultrabasic (chiefly serpentinites) and basic rock under the influence of hydrothermal solutions, as a result of which listvenites are formed. The Soviet geologist D. S. Korzhinskii views (1953) listvenitization as low-temperature perivein metasomatism. It is taken into account in prospecting for a number of mineral deposits (gold, mercury, and talc). Listvenitization also develops at the contacts of serpentinites with calcareous rock (limestones and dolomites).
