Lohman, Joseph D.

Lohman, Joseph D.

(1910–68) criminologist, sociologist; born in New York City. Executive secretary of the National Committee on Segregation in the Nation's Capitol (1946–48), he served on corrections and parole committees in Illinois and was sheriff of Cook County, Ill. (1954–58). Teaching longest at the University of California: Berkeley, where he was dean of the School of Criminology (1961–68), he was consultant to foundations on crime and delinquency, author of numerous books, and appeared on several television series about delinquency and penitentiaries.
