Mýrdalsjökull

 

a glacier (icecap) in southern Iceland. Area, 700 sq km; elevation, up to 1,450 m (its middle section is 990 m high). Its outlet glaciers descend to 200 m. On the southern slope, annual precipitation reaches 4,000 mm. Several active volcanoes, the largest of which is Katla, are located under the glacier and at its edges.
