MPEG-H

A family of 15 audio and video standards from the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). Development began in 2010, and the first standard was approved in 2013. The "H" was derived from High Efficiency; for example, the H.265 video codec is entitled High Efficiency Video Coding (see HEVC). The High Efficiency Image File format stores twice as much data as JPEG (see HEIF). The streaming format is known as the MPEG Media Transport (see MMT), and there are three standards that deal with surround sound (see 3D audio and surround sound). See MPEG.

In preparation for South Korea's new MPEG-H-based ATSC 3.0 broadcast channels scheduled to go on the air in February, Fraunhofer IIS has developed a trademark program for products incorporating its MPEG-H TV Audio System, the company said.

Consumer products such as TVs, soundbars, audio-video receivers, set-top boxes, digital media adapters, or mobile apps and devices may display the trademark to indicate that they have been tested to work together and support the features of the MPEG-H system used for TV broadcasts.
