Madagascar Current

 

a warm current of the Indian Ocean, near the eastern and southern shores of the island of Madagascar; a branch of the South Equatorial Current. It moves south and southwest at a speed of about 2-3 km/hr. Water temperature on the surface in February is 27°-28°C, and in August it is 22°-24°C. Salinity is more than 35 parts per thousand. In the southwest part of the Madagascar Current joins the warm Agulhas Current.
