Maloof, Sam
(1916– ) furniture maker; born in Chino, Calif. After working in architectural drafting, graphic arts, and industrial design, he became an independent woodworker in the 1940s. A master of joinery, sculptural organic forms, and functional simplicity, he produced some 100 pieces a year from his Alta Loma, Calif., workshop. Beginning in 1970, he taught in the summers at the Penland School for Crafts in North Carolina.
