Manning equation

An equation used to compute the velocity of uniform flow in an open channel.

One method to obtain this is the use of the Manning formula as presented in the Isco Open Channel Flow Measurement Handbook, Fourth Edition, published by Isco, Inc., Lincoln, Nebraska.
In a field situation, careful use of the Manning formula can result in the determination of a flow rate that is accurate to within 10 to 20 percent.
