Marshall State Fish & Wildlife Area
Location:Along the Illinois River near East Peoria, off IL 26.
Facilities:Tent and trailer campsites (some with electricity and water), canoe
campsites, picnic area with shelters (no drinking water), multi-use
trail (3.5 miles), boat ramp.
Activities:Camping, boating, canoeing, fishing, wildlife viewing, birdwatching,
hiking, hunting, backpacking, cross-country skiing, ice fishing.
Special Features:Park lies along 10 miles of Illinois River backwaters, bottomlands, and
bluffs in the heart of the mallard duck flyway. The backwater lakes
attract large flights of waterfowl during migration, but only the wood
duck remains during summer to nest and raise young. Great blue heron
also are found on the backwaters, and during the winter it's possible
to see bald eages there.
