Mary I

family name Tudor, known as Bloody Mary. 1516--58, queen of England (1553--58). The daughter of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon, she married Philip II of Spain in 1554. She restored Roman Catholicism to England and about 300 Protestants were burnt at the stake as heretics

All in all, and despite some inconsistencies regarding the relative brevity of the analysis of Knox's text in the introductory section and the unusual handling of footnotes throughout the text, this Spanish study and translation of The First Blast of the Trumpet is a well-documented work, which provides a new and suggestive perspective on queens and queenship studies, and particularly on Mary I of England, a relatively unknown royal figure in Spain (Perez Martin 2012).
For a man of Ferrers' apparent adaptability to changing political circumstances, his failure to enjoy favor under Mary I stands in stark contrast not only to his own previous experience under Henry VIII and Edward VI, but to the experience of individuals whose circumstances were not all that dissimilar to his.
But it also reveals Ferrets' antiquarian interest in the notion of an indefeasible hereditary monarchy, which perhaps explains both the robust aid offered to Mary I during the Wyatt Revolt, and the accusation against Dee, whose alleged attempts to forecast the date of Mary's death were within the scope of treason, and were offered well after Mary's government had deprived Ferrers of the only magistracy he ever really wanted.
