Location:35 miles west of downtown Hilo in central Hawaii, on Saddle Road (Highway 200).
Facilities:Housekeeping cabins, picnic areas, scenic views.
Activities:Picnicking; pig, sheep, and bird hunting nearby.
Special Features:At 6,500 feet, park's elevation provides good views of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. The area has clear, dry weather with cold nights. Period military training nearby may disrupt the peace and quiet of the area. (Note: Car rental companies may prohibit the use of their vehicles on the road that leads to the park, Saddle Road.)
