On the central southern border of ND, southeast of Bismarck; organized Mar 9, 1883 (prior to statehood) from Logan County. Name Origin: For either John J. McIntosh, a state legislator, or for Edward H. McIntosh (1922-1901), a Dakota territorial legislator

On southeastern coast of GA, north of Brunswick; organized Dec 19, 1793 from Liberty County. Name Origin: Either for the McIntosh family of early settlers; or for William McIntosh (1775-1825), Creek Indian leader who fought in the Seminole War (1817-18), then became a brigadier general in the U.S. Army. He was killed as a traitor by the Creek Indians
