McLaughlin, Donal
(1907–2009)Working as the head of graphics for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS, precursor of the CIA), McLaughlin, an architect and graphic designer, led the team charged with putting together the printed elements for the 1945 United Nations Conference on International Organization in San Francisco, CA including the emblem that eventually became the UN’s logo. He collaborated with Walter Dorwin Teague and Raymond Loewy on exhibits for the 1939 World’s Fair, Queens, NY and the interiors of Tiffany & Company’s Fifth Avenue store, NYC before joining the OSS to develop visual material for the military.
