In south-central KY, east of Bowling Green; organized Feb 1, 1860 from Adair, Monroe, Cumberland, Barren, and Green counties. Name Origin: For Capt. Thomas Metcalfe (1780-1855), KY legislator, governor (1828-32), and U.S. senator (1848-49)
