Matrah

 

a city in Oman; a northern suburb of Muscat. Population, 17,000 (1970). Matrah, a port on the Gulf of Oman, is a center for trade in dates and other fruits, fish, and pearls. Small seacraft are built and repaired. The annual freight turnover of the port is about 1.5 million tons.
