This paper presents preliminary observations on veinlets and trails of native bismuth and silver melt inclusion that cross-cut silicate and carbonate vein fill and alteration minerals in the five-element veins at Cobalt, Canada.
These temperatures, although sufficient to produce melt inclusions of native bismuth, are insufficient to melt silver.
Native silver and (to a lesser extent) native bismuth generally occur with cobalt-arsenides, sulfarsenides and sulfosalts in near-vertical carbonate ([+ or -] silicate) veins cutting Huronian sedimentary rocks of the Gowganda Formation, Archean greenstones, and the Paleoproterozoic Nipissing diabase (Fig.
Solid inclusions of native bismuth, although less common, are also present in the Cobalt area, as veinlets and irregular masses (Petruk 1971a) and as trails of solid inclusions (Figs.
Other less attractive but interesting species include bismuth minerals (
native bismuth, bismuthinite, cosalite, bismutite), tungsten minerals (scheelite, ferberite) and several borates including ludwigite in large, radiated masses, inderite, szaibelyite and canavesite-a species described in 1978 for which Brosso is the type and, so far, only locality.
The property, under option from Bering Straits Native Corp., has received virtually no previous lode gold exploration, however historic placer gold operations returned gold with associated
native bismuth, scheelite and gold-bearing
native bismuth metals more commonly associated with gold deposits of the Tintina Gold Belt of Interior Alaska and the Yukon.
It is commonly associated with other bismuth minerals including native bismuth, bismuthinite, bismutite, bismite, beyerite, eulytite, pucherite, schumacherite and clinobisvanite.
Namibite associated with native bismuth, bismutite, beyerite and eulytite has been identified from the Evans-Lou pegmatite near Poltimore, Quebec (Grice et al., 1986).
It is found in quartz cavities associated with native bismuth, beyerite, bismite, bismutite, clinobisvanite pseudomorphs after pucherite, and other oxidized Cu minerals.
Joachimsthal and Nagyag;
native bismuth from Schneeberg and Zlatna; and superb Sicilian sulfur specimens are among the prizes of his native element collection.
