Established: 1939.
Location:Central Wisconsin, about 180 miles southeast of Minneapolis.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, viewing sites, observation tower, auto tour route, trails.
Activities:Fishing, hiking, hunting, berry picking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, educational programs.
Special Features:Refuge also provides habitat for threatened, endangered, and rare species such as the Karner blue butterfly, Massasauga rattlesnake, Blanding's turtle, and gray wolf.
Habitats: 43,696 acres of forest, wetlands, and large tracts of rare oak barrens.
Access: Open during daylight hours.
Wild life: Bald eagles, whooping cranes, tringed bog hunter dragonflies, urkey, white-tailed deer, ruffed grouse, beaver, and coyote.
