Niemy Sejm

(Silent Sejm), a one-day session of the Polish Sejm, held on Feb. 1, 1717, that confirmed the agreement between King Augustus II and the magnate and gentry participants in the Tarnogród Confederation. The agreement limited royal power and broadened the rights of the szlachta (gentry). It was called “silent” because its decisions were adopted without debate.
