Novyi Zai

 

an urban-type settlement and administrative center of Zainskii Raion, the Tatar ASSR, situated on the Zai River (a tributary of the Kama), 4 km from the Zainsk railroad station. Population, 18,000 (1973). The Zai State Regional Power Plant, a plant producing reinforced concrete structural members, and a sugar factory are located in Novyi Zai.
