a city and port of entry in NE Mexico, in Tamaulipas state on the Rio Grande opposite Laredo, Texas: oil industries. Pop.: 353 000 (2005 est.)

Nuevo Laredo

 

a city in Mexico, in Tamaulipas State, on the right bank of the Rio Grande, directly opposite the US city of Laredo. Population, 151,000 (1970). Nuevo Laredo is the starting point for the Pan-American Highway. It is a commercial center, and its chief industry is the processing of crops, chiefly cotton, grown in the surrounding irrigated farming region. Other industries include textiles, food-processing, and metalworking.
