While the demands of
nursing informatics continue to evolve, education must be tailored to match the needs of the workforce to prepare graduates to implement informatics in their practice.
Systems must employ qualified
nursing informatics personnel to ensure maximum return on investment.
Nursing Informatics (NI), defined as the blending of computer science, information science, and nursing science, has been a recognized specialty by the American Nurses Association since 1992 (American Nurses Association [ANA], 2008).
The digital journal will be published quarterly and will include a wide variety of research studies, continuing nursing education articles, and other topics relevant to
nursing informatics practice.
The new "
Nursing Informatics" programme has been handed over to nurses, who have been asked to train other employees in conducting tele- consultations that are intended to facilitate follow- up care for patients.
Informatics competency was defined as "the integration of knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the performance of various
nursing informatics activities [1]." The importance of informatics competency for all nurses was articulated in the 2001 American Nurses Association's (ANA's) Scope and Standards of Practice for
Nursing Informatics.

In support of this new vision and challenge, the Arizona Nurses Association has responded by developing Chapter 8, whose objective will be to promote the advancement of
nursing informatics within health care across both the clinical and the educational settings.
The necessity for
nursing informatics leadership has never been more clear and present, driven by a variety of healthcare reform-related initiatives, some of them mandatory and some voluntary.
