O'Bannon Woods State Park
Location:In central and extreme southern Indiana, bordering the Ohio River,
within the 24,000-acre Harrison-Crawford State Forest.
Facilities:281 campsites with electricity, modern restrooms, and showers, 47
equestrian campsites (primitive), group camping area (primitive) with
100-bed self-contained structures, picnic areas, 9 shelters, hiking
trails (15.8 miles of short day-use trails and access to a 24-mile
backpacking trail in Harrison-Crawford State Forest), horse trails,
access sites for boaters, nature center, naturalist services.
Activities:Camping, fishing, boating, hiking, horseback riding, interpretive programs.
Special Features:Park, which is located within the Harrison-Crawford State Forest,
features natural escarpments overlooking the Ohio River. Wyandotte
Caves State Recreation Area (see separate entry) is also located in the
Harrison-Crawford State Forest. The park was
previously known as Wyandotte Woods State Recreation Area; the name was
changed in 2004 to honor the late Governor Frank O'Bannon and his
family.
