Established: 2000.
Location:South of the Schofield Barracks Military Reserve, in the northern Koolau Mountains on the eastern side of Oahu, Hawaii.
Special Features:Refuge protects some of the last remaining intact native forests on Oahu, and supports at least 17 species of endangered plants and four species of endangered tree snails.
Habitats: 4,525 acres of forested land on the leeward slopes of Oahu's Kooalu Mountains. Habitat communities include mesic forest, rain forest, high-elevation cloud forest, and freshwater streams.
Access: Closed to the public.
Wild life: Oahu elepaio (endangered), Hawaiian owl, native honeycreepers, and other native Hawaiian forest birds.
