Dilkon, Leupp, Birdsprings,
Oljato, Navajo Mountain, Many Farms, Pinon, Tsaille, Sanders, Teesto, and Big Mountain were the communities we traveled to for the food runs and give-away-circles in Fall 2015 and 2016.
As a result there now exists a suite of tribal entities with whom we conduct regular consultation: the Hopi, Zuni, Paiute, Southern Paiute, Kaibab Paiute, Ute, and Navajo Nation (including individual chapters at LeChee, Bodaway/Gap, Cameron, Kaibito, Navajo Mountain, and
Oljato).
We had met Jensen the day before at
Oljato Trading Post.
Overview: Use HST's Faint Object Spectrograph (FOS) to search asteroids 182 Elsa, 224 Oceana, 899 Jokaste, 944 Hidalgo, and 2201
Oljato for OH emission indicating weak cometary activity.
Despite such tantalizing evidence, McFadden remains unpersuaded that a strong link exists between comets and asteroids--at least not for an enigmatic object known as 2201
Oljato.
The
Oljato and Shonto areas produced 43,623 more animals, while some Utah Navajos undoubtedly went to vats located at Kayenta, Shiprock, Dennihotso, and Teec Nos Pos.
McFadden first examined a mysterious, sun-orbiting object -- now called 2201
Oljato -- she could not discern whether it was a bare, rocky asteroid or a "dying" comet that had lost most of its ice.
Arts and crafts are sold atthe predictable places (motels, park visitor center), but one you might otherwise overlook is
Oljato Trading Post, an old-style store 9 miles northwest from Goulding's.
The case got even stranger last year, when a study of similar events suggested that at least some of them might indeed be due to a known object--but the object, named 2201
Oljato, was one that had previously shown almost no signs of being a comet.
