Many species show distinct microsite preferences: (1) Characteristic of the shady understory, including Arthoniaceae, Opegraphaceae, Pilecarpaceae, and Trichotheliaceae; (2) characteristic of light gaps, including Gomphillaceae and Ectolechiaceae; (3) characteristic of the canopy, including Asterothyriaceae and Gomphillaceae.
