Overhauser, Albert W. (Warner)

(1925–  ) physicist; born in San Diego, Calif. He performed research at the University of Illinois (1951–53), moved to Cornell (1953–58), and was a solid state physicist at the Ford Motor Company (1958–73) before joining Purdue (1973). He made many contributions to the study of the behavior of conduction electrons in metals, including discovering the now-called Overhauser effect of dynamic polarization (1953).
