Paleofaunistics

 

a division of paleontology that studies the historical development of past faunas or faunistic complexes. Paleofaunistics reveals the composition, geographical and geological distribution, and evolution of faunas. The most extensively studied faunas are the Northern Dvina (Permian), Solenhofen (Jurassic), and Hipparion (Neogene).
