Pangamic Acid

 

(vitamin B15), an ester of D-gluconic and dimethylaminoacetic acids. An extract of rice bran, yeast, blood, and liver, pangamic acid activates oxygen transfer in living cells and takes part in methylation reactions. The calcium salt of pangamic acid is used in the treatment of several diseases, including various forms of atherosclerosis, hepatitis, and pulmonary emphysema, as well as chronic or acute poisoning with alcohol and other toxic substances.

We recently found that diisopropylamine dichloroacetate (DADA), which is the active component of pangamic acid ["vitamin B15", Liverall[R] (Daiichi Sankyo Co., Tokyo, Japan)] (50) and has been used for over 50 years for the treatment of chronic liver diseases without any adverse reaction, is a selective and safe inhibitor of PDK4.
