But, by December of 1942, a designer by the name of Heinrich Langweiler came up with a much-improved individual, aimed, disposable, single-shot antitank weapon, which was later to be called the
Panzerfaust. This and all future versions can be described as follows: a finstabilized, hollow-charge grenade with a simple firing mechanism inside a lengthened firing tube with crude sights (a flip-up, keyhole rear sight and very minimal front sight on top of the grenade itself) that required the long firing tube.

With machine-gun pits in each corner, entrenched riflemen armed with
Panzerfaust antitank weapons and pre-sighted artillery waited for Allied troops to make the mistake of a haphazard advance.
In Infantry Aces, Kurowski supported this argument illustrating the ability of
Panzerfaust armed infantry units bringing "massed armored attacks to a halt by themselves." Oliker collaborating the devastating effect of infantry against unsupported armor, stated "loyalist Chechen tank formations were surrounded and destroyed by RPG-armed rebels." Weapon developments enabled the evolution in CA methodology into CW, what Mike Vickers called a weapons mix in Charlie Wilson's War, adding another dimension to modern warfare.

Panzerfaust was the RPG-1.)
On the break-out from Normandy he had just crossed the River Seine when his tank was hit by a

The MG 42 light machine gun with its high cyclic rate of fire, the various models of assault rifles, the portable antitank rockets known as the
Panzerfaust and the Panzerschreck, lifted the German infantryman to what might be called a "post-modern" level that the rest of the world's foot soldiers would not reach for thirty years.
