Born Dec. 3, 1904, in Peking. Chinese archaeologist, paleontologist, and paleoanthropologist.
From 1928 to 1937, P’ei participated in excavations near Chouk’outien, where he discovered a skull cup of Sinanthropus (1929). Between 1930 and 1934 he discovered and studied the Upper Paleolithic site of Shuang-ti-tung. In 1951, P’ei investigated the site of the Tzu-yang Man (in Szechuan Province), and from 1956 to 1958 he studied cave sites in the province of Kwangsi.
