Pert, Candace B.

Pert, Candace B.

(1946–  ) neuroscientist; born in New York City. She earned a Ph.D. in pharmacology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and after 1975 was associated with the National Institute of Mental Health, where she was chief of the brain chemistry section (1982–88). Her early work on receptor molecules in the brain led to the discovery of endorphins, the subject of much of her later research.
