Location:5 miles northeast of Dallas off GA Highway 381.
Facilities:Visitor center with artifacts and exhibits, earthworks, hiking trails (4 miles), picnic tables, group shelter.
Special Features:Pickett's Mill is one of the best preserved Civil War battlefields in the nation. During the spring of 1864, Federal forces, while advancing toward Atlanta, reached the vicinity of Pickett's Mill, where they attacked Confederate troops. The Confederate victory delayed the Federal advance on Atlanta for one week, but it resulted in more than 2,000 combined casualties. Today, visitors can travel roads used by Union and Confederate troops and see earthworks constructed by the soldiers.
