Born Dec. 8, 1828, in Paris; died there July 10, 1911. French economist and historian. Member of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences (1868).
Levasseur was the author of numerous works, primarily on the economic history of France, written from the standpoint of the school of vulgar political economy. His works portray capitalism in apologetic terms, but they are valuable for the large amount of factual material that they contain.
