Placerita Canyon State Park
Location:In Los Angeles County, at 19152 Placerita Canyon Road, Newhall, CA.

Special Features:Park preserves and protects the site of the first discovery
of gold in California, in 1842. Designated as a State Historic
Landmark, the park is situated in the transition zone between the San
Gabrial Mountains and the Mojave Desert and contains sandstone
formations, streams, and woodlands. Park is operated by Los Angeles
County and includes a nature center with gardens (including one of the
largest displays of camellias in the world), a lake, and pools and
waterfalls.
