Polessk

 

(until 1946, Labiau), a city and administrative center of Polessk Raion, Kaliningrad Oblast, RSFSR, on the left bank of the Deima River, 46 km northeast of Kaliningrad. Polessk has a railroad station on the Kaliningrad-Sovetsk line. There is a fish-processing combine in the city. The city also has branches of a boot and shoe factory and the Iantar’ amber plant, both of which have main facilities in Kaliningrad. Peat is extracted in the area. Local educational institutions include a branch of the Leningrad Institute of Agriculture.
