Ponderosa State Park
Location:Southwestern Idaho, 2 miles northeast of McCall city center.
Facilities:117 primitive and developed campsites (some with electricity), rental
cabins and yurts, group picnic shelters, trails, restrooms, showers,
boat ramps, volleyball area, horseshoe pits, interpretive center.
Activities:Camping, swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, guided walks, interpretive
programs.
Special Features:Park covers most of a peninsula that juts into Payette Lake near
McCall, and a scenic overlook offers a spectacular view of the lake.
The park's namesake Ponderosa pines--some 500 years old and 150 feet
high--are the most noticeable species of tree here, but Douglas fir,
grand fir, lodgepole pine, and western larch also grow in the park. The
park has more than 14 miles of groomed Nordic ski trails and has been
selected as the venue for the 2008 Masters World Cup, a prestigious
Nordic skiing event.
