Praia

 

the capital of the Cape Verde Islands. Population, 32,300 (1968). A port on the southern coast of Sâo Tiago Island, Praia is a junction point for transatlantic sea routes. It exports oranges, sugar, and coffee. Fishing is also an important industry.
