Press Trust of India Ltd (PTI)

 

India’s largest news agency; a cooperative of newspaper owners.

Founded in 1949, PTI is located in Bombay. It supplies national and international news in English to more than 200 newspapers and to the central government, state governments, radio, commercial firms, and banks. It also distributes throughout India the international news of the Reuters and Agence France-Presse agencies and has news-exchange agreements with other foreign agencies. Its correspondents are stationed in the most important cities of the world, including Moscow, New York, London, and Paris. PTI is a member of the Organization of Asian News Agencies. In 1976, PTI merged with several other news agencies to form the Samachar Agency.
