Producing Suite
The following article is from The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979). It might be outdated or ideologically biased.
Producing Suite
a subdivision of the Pliocene series of the Neogene system of the Caspian basin that was distinguished by the Russian geologist M. Abramovich in 1913. It is represented by a complex of continental deposits (sands, clays, rudaceous formations) that are as much as 1,400 m thick. It does not conform to the underlying deposits of the Pontian stage and is transgressively overlapped by the Akchagyl strata. The major petroleum deposits in the industrial areas of the Apsheron Peninsula and the Kobustan region are confined to the producing suite.
