Dr Hossein Hamidi from the University's School of Engineering has won joint funding to develop technology that will tackle scale formation in downhole
production tubing, which hampers fluid flow.
The product, designed exclusively in a co-commercialisation collaboration with ExxonMobil, is a new sucker-rod coupling coated with a proprietary, diamond-like layer that the company claims dramatically reduces friction between the coupling and
production tubing. Available with a choice of two proprietary coatings, a single-stage process and a triple-layer coating, Mamba couplings are ideal for rod-lift and PCP-lift wells operating in challenging environments.
Designed exclusively in a co-commercialization collaboration with ExxonMobil, the new sucker-rod coupling is coated with a proprietary, diamond-like layer that dramatically reduces friction between the coupling and
production tubing. Compared to all previously available couplings, including standard, spray metal, and premium friction-resistant materials used in high-abrasion areas, the exclusive Mamba carbon-spray coating provides six-times greater wear resistance and uptime in both laboratory and extensive field tests.
It also finds use in well clean out's, pumping of nitrogen and as
production tubing in depleted gas wells among others.
The facility will help serve a number of industries, such as oil and gas, construction, automotive, packaging, and renewable energy to produce flow lines, downhole
production tubing, vessels, pumps, and cooling towers, all of which are manufactured from non-metallic materials such as plastic, carbon fiber, and glass fiber.
However, the high rate of acid may induce severe corrosion attack on
production tubing, downhole tools and casing.
As previously announced, this operation will entail pulling the existing
production tubing from the wellbore and re-perforating the Abiod formation using a casing gun and deep penetrating charges, followed by acidization of the perforated intervals.
The Nodal Analysis is used to examine the effects of variables that you have control of such as number of perforations, perhaps surface pressure, and tubular sizes if designing a well or considering tubing resize [5].1-3-1-NODAL EXAMPLETUBING SIZEFrom the preceding analysis, it is clear that the size(diameter) of the
production tubing can play an important role in the effectiveness with whichthe well can produce liquids.
OptaSense will record seismic signals from fibre-optic cables attached to each well's
production tubing, permanently installed and linked to a surface data gathering centre.
Officials said the workers were preparing to install
production tubing inside the well in order to start production of natural gas and the simultaneous removal of fluid.
To overcome the above mentioned problems/ difficulties, SMART software is proposed to be designed in the department, based on self-requirements which can perform hydraulic fracture design, its analysis and finally be able to ease
production tubing size selection on the basis of post fracture analysis.
