Figure 9 shows the probability of correct confirmation versus the SNR of the targets before
pulse compression; the results correspond to target 2.
Pulse compression could significantly increase achievable peak power in generating such pulses.
The former operates at X band, steers electronically in azimuth and mechanically in elevation, has a 2.5[degrees]-3.5[degrees] half-power beamwidth, is low powered, and makes use of nonlinear frequency modulated
pulse compression; the latter operates at S band, is fully electronically steered using commutating beams around the cylinder (but is frequency steered in elevation for cost reduction), is high powered, and has 4.5[degrees] half-power beamwidth.
If we see the target of interest as a system, then the transmit weight vector [??] and the
pulse compression result [x.sub.s] can be viewed as the system input and output, respectively.

The concept of Hamming scan algorithm has been employed for obtaining the
pulse compression sequences at larger lengths with good correlation properties [2,3].
It is also the only commercial radar that utilizes
pulse compression technology, providing a higher resolution display of true weather hazards, for greater accuracy at a longer range.'
The aircraft is configured to carry torpedoes and is fitted with state of the art
pulse compression radar, low frequency dipping sonar, red-warning receiver and Doppler navigation system.
The range-resolution disadvantage could be eliminated by the use of
pulse compression. High range resolution was restored by sending modulated transmissions that, after reception, could be compressed by matched receivers: an attractive technique, which, of course, not was free of charge.
Complex
pulse compression can be applied to a pulse without the need to manually perform complex calculations.
