RS-422

A TIA/EIA standard for serial interfaces that extends distances and speeds beyond RS-232. RS-422 is a balanced system requiring more wire pairs than its RS-423 counterpart and is intended for use in multipoint lines. Both use either a 37-pin connector defined by RS-449 or a 25-pin connector defined by RS-530.

RS-449 and RS-530 specify the pin definitions for RS-422 and RS-423. RS-422/423 specify electrical and timing characteristics. See RS-530.

The Compact Pro accommodates single- and dual-wire CAN; LIN; K-Line; RS-232, RS-485, and RS-422; RUP; ACP; PTP; J1850, and SCP communications protocols.
The Modbus modules feature support for RTU and ASCII modes: independently configured ports operating as Master and/or Slave: continuous polling of Command list; ideal for SCADA and Modbus device interfaces (transmitters, drives, flow meters, valves and loop controllers connectivity); two active serial ports each supporting RS-232, RS-422 and RS485.
These new RS-485/422 transceivers are full duplex, configured for four-wire RS-485 networks, which allows simultaneous transmit and receive capability, or for RS-422 networks where only one driver is allowed on a bus.
Each unit provides a solid-state controller with a liquid crystal display (LCD) front-panel display and keypad for manual override and three remote interfaces (RS-232, RS-422 and IEEE-488/GPIB) and is enclosed in a 5.25" X 19.00" X 20.00" rack-mountable chassis designed with EMI integrity.
Using SHDSL, the TC EXTENDER transparently extends Ethernet data transmission up to 20 km across single twisted pair (CAT5/6/7), coax or any existing copper wiring previously used in alarm circuits, E1/T1 circuits, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, CCTV and CATV applications.
Available in one, two and four port versions, the products support the most popular interfaces such as the RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485.
Expanded capabilities include support of customized sensor algorithms, writing of "software inside" applications and the availability of high speed streaming RS-422 protocol for faster and more economic digital data communication, according to the company.
The new data radios not only move RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 for serial data from any PLC or controller with MODBUS and Allen-Bradley DFI protocols, but also allow users to read and write analog and digital I/O from remote locations.
These transceivers are built using the Intersil BiCMOS process and meet both the RS-485 and RS-422 standards for balanced (differential) communication.
