Ramsey Lake State Recreation Area
Location:Southern Illinois, 1 mile northwest of Ramsey in Fayette County.
Facilities:90 campsites with electricity, flush toilet, and showers, 24 sites
(with electricity) for organized group camping, 45 primitive sites,
youth group campground, small campground for horses, picnic areas,
shelters, playgrounds, privies, hiking trail, horse trail (13 miles),
boat ramp, boat dock, boat rentals, concession.
Activities:Camping, boating (electric motors only), canoeing, fishing, hiking,
horseback riding, hunting, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, sledding,
ice skating, snowmobiling.
Special Features:Once known as the "Old Fox Chase Grounds," park used to be a popular
place for fox and raccoon hunters. It was also the site of one of the
largest dog trial events.
