Location:Along the Illinois River, 5 miles east of Griggsville and 2 miles south of Valley City in Pike County.
Facilities:None.
Activities:Bank fishing, hunting, hiking, bald eagle watching (in winter).
Special Features:Site provides exceptional habitat for a wide range of plants and animals, including the endangered bald eagle and the jeweled shooting star, a rare pre-glacial wildflower species. Notable geographic features include Big Blue Island, a narrow, 100-acre strip of land in the river, and two east-west flowing streams, Blue Creek (a river tributary) and Napoleon Hollow Creek (spring-fed). Portions of the river bluff areas are closed to the public seasonally to provide a refuge for the wintering bald eagles, but viewing is allowed from specified locations.
