Breeding ecology of American avocets (Recurvirostra americana) in north-central Oklahoma.
Table 1--Number of nests monitored by three treatments used to detect predators and frequency of predation on nests of American avocets (Recurvirostra americana) and black-necked stilts (Himantopus mexicanus) in Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, California, 2006-2007.
Ruddy turnstones (Arenaria interpres), American avocets (Recurvirostra americana), long-billed curlews (Numenius americanus), whimbrels (N.
Both small (Calidris, Limnodromus, Arenaria, Charadrius and Pluvialis spp.) and large shorebirds (Limosa, Catoptrophorus, Recurvirostra, Numenius and Tringa spp.) were about equally represented (47.5, and 52.5%, respectively).
The islands in the Wadden Sea are particular important for a number of breeding species such as the avocet (
Recurvirostra avosetta), Kentish plover (Charadrius alexandrinus), spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia) and marsh harrier (Circus aeruginosus) which are rare throughout the rest of northern Europe.

Long-billed Curlews (Numenius americanus) and Marbled Godwits (Limosa fedoa) used mainly low mudflats, while American Avocets (
Recurvirostra americana) and Stilt Sandpipers (Calidris himantopus) were restricted to pools on the high mudflats.
Pied AvCet (
Recurvirostra avosetta), bean goose, and swan goose were dominant in PHF, accounting for14.55%, 10.73%, and 10.01% of total numbers respectively.
However, two species accounted for almost half of all individuals: Calidris alba (24%) and Himantopus mexicanus (21%), with two other species having moderate numbers: Catoptrophorus semipalmatus and
Recurvirostra americana (12% each).
