But trench and
riot guns really do grab my attention.
Anyone who has been battered with heavy buckshot and slug loads in a light pump

The Savage Arms Company was contracted for numbers of its semiauto Model 720 shotguns in
riot gun and standard configurations.
Soldiers and Marines worked in two-man teams, one armed with a Krag-Jorgensen rifle, and the other with an M1897
Riot Gun. If the rifleman did not stop the Juramentado at a distance, the shotgunner stopped him at close range.
Given its compact size, officers can carry a lot of them, and 12 to 14 Minishells can easily fit into the tube of a 20-inch
riot gun. Only the Winchester 1300 pump will cycle them without a hitch, but they are just perfect for single- and double-barrel guns.
The latter was offered in a
Riot Gun version with a 20-inch cylinder bore barrel which soon replaced the sawn-off double-barrel shotgun in the hands of law enforcement officers.
Having proved itself in combat in Vietnam with the Marines, the Remington 870 in "
riot gun" guise is the quintessential social shotgun.
So that "little lady" purchases a mean-looking, 8-pound, pistol-gripped, 10-shot,
riot gun and a couple boxes of 3-inch magnum buckshot rounds.
