Rock Island Trail State Park

Location:Between Alta (Peoria County) to Toulon (Stark County).
Facilities:Class D primitive campsites (in Kickpoo Creek Recreation Area) with picnic tables, shelter, and water; parking, water, and pit toilets at all access sites along the trail; visitor center/railroad museum.
Activities:Camping, hiking, bicycling, cross-country skiing, interpretive programs.
Special Features:Following the abandoned Rock Island Railroad line, the trail travels through five towns (Alta, Dunlap, Princeville, Wyoming, and Toulon) over several bridges, including a trestle bridge over the Spoon River. The trail is lined with trees for much of the way, passing farmland, prairie grass, and wildflower meadows, and is considered one of the finest in Illinois. A restored train depot in Wyoming, Illinois, serves as trail headquarters.
