Rondônia

 

a federal territory in northern Brazil, in the Madeira River basin. Area, 243 sq km. Population, 111,000 (1970). The capital is Pôorto Velho. The territory’s economy is based on the gathering of natural rubber, harvesting of Brazil nuts, and manufacture of structural timber. Tin ore is also mined.
